It's high in fibre, high in protein and low in calories. It keeps you feeling full for the whole morning and it's great to eat before you workout. And the most important part (besides how great it tastes) its very nutritious. Pair this up with a good cup of coffee and you're good to go.

1. Choose your bread of choice. I suggest anything that is a WHOLE GRAIN, and nothing white. There are no nutritional ingredients in white bread and it causes cellulite. I have a high intolerance to wheat flour so I eat Ezekiel bread. It is very healthy and extremely easy to digest. For this recipe, I choose the cinnamon raisin Ezekiel toast.
2. Spread your toast with almond butter or peanut butter. I prefer almond butter. It tastes amazing and it has more health benefits but it does cost a buck or two more.
3. Sprinkle your bread with cayenne pepper, yes cayenne pepper. Don't put to much on, just enough to get a little zip.
4. Cut up banana slices and put them on your toast.
5. Take a teaspoon of uncooked raw honey and drip it all over.

Voila!

BEN-O-METER
rates this recipe for breakfast as:
4 outta 5 thumbs up

Now here comes the good part, the nutritional breakdown for 2 Slices of Sweet n' Hot Banana Nut Toast:
Calories - 385
Fat - 9g (all good fat that's in the almond butter)
Protein - 12g
Fibre - 9g
Sugar - 33g (All natural sugars)
Sodium - 130mg
Trans Fat - 0g

Cinnamon Raisin Ezekiel Bread
Ezekiel 4:9® Organic Sprouted Whole Grain Products are: Flourless, Organic, Complete Protein, and Sprouted Whole Grain.
Ingredients - Wheat, Barley, Beans, Lentils, Millet, and Spelt, Raisins and Cinnamon.

Almond Butter
Almonds have been known for a plethora of benefits and are the most nutritious of all the nuts. Not only do almonds curve food cravings and keep you full, but it also keeps your cholesterol low, your heart healthy, and wards off diabetes. They are high in vitamins, minerals and are complete with the good fat aka monounsaturated fats.
Cayenne Pepper
Cleanses your blood and speeds up your metabolism (seriously it really does). It also aids in healing of the intestines, stomach and helps digestion.
Bananas
High in potassium, fibre and is considered a healthy starch.
Honey
100% Raw, Natural, Uncooked, Unfiltered, Unblended, Undiluted Honey - Just wanted to clarify that.
Excites the appetite, helps digestion and aids the healing of ulcers. Now here's the really cool part: Honey prevents infections and kills bacteria when you put it on wounds. Why is this? Well it contains antibacterial and antimicrobial agents. Its pretty much one of God's perfect foods....and it tastes so damn good.

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns or comments and I will be happy to answer them. GookieGoodHealth@gmail.com

BON APPETITE!

Spring Cleaning Time! The What To Do's and What Not To Do's of Cleansing

So its spring time and do you know what the best thing to do in the spring is? A body cleanse! I do not recommend doing a fast. From personal experience doing The Master Cleanse or as some people call it The Lemonade Diet, and from the advice of several nutritionists, do not do it. Especially if you are a beginner and inexperienced in detoxing. It is extremely hard on your body and in some cases could do more harm then good. Plus food (the right food) acts as a healing agent and is used as a medicine to heal your body when cleansing.
There's so much information about cleansing that I'm only going to give you the most important and I'm only going to focus on beginner cleanses. Please read this page of information located on this webpage. It is short, sweet and to the point on why we should cleanse and the effects it has on our bodies: http://www.renewlife.com/education/why-cleanse.aspx

The cleanse I recommend for beginners is First Cleanse by Renew Life. It is a two week program that is easy and flexible for the newbie. I prefer their products and I have used this particular Detox program before and it was excellent. You should be able to purchase it at most to all health stores and it is approx. $20 in price.

This cleansing program is fairly simple and easy. There are two sets of supplements to take. Two pills in the morning 30 min before breakfast. And yes, you HAVE to eat breakfast. It jump starts your metabolism 10 fold in the morning and it provides energy and nutrients for your detox. You should eat breakfast within 1 hour of waking up. If you're not custom to eating breakfast start off slow with a piece of toast with butter or almond butter, oatmeal or even a banana.
The second set of pills can be taken right before you go to bed.

You should also be taking a fibre supplement. This will increase the expulsion of toxins in your body. To put it bluntly, the more you crap, the less crap you will have in your body.

You have to be drinking 8-10 glasses of water daily. If you want to spice it up a bit I recommend adding lemon and cayenne pepper to your water. Not only does cayenne pepper speed up your metabolism (It really does I swear) but it also cleanses your blood of toxins and lemon helps to detoxify your body.

To get the most out of this cleanse, follow this diet:

WHAT TO EAT
. Unlimited amount of fruits and vegetables
. Chicken, Turkey and Fish
. Eggs
. Whole grains such as brown rice, millet, spelt, quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat and kamut. Pasta made from any of these grains is excellent as well. I eat brown rice pasta and it is amazing. If you are unfamiliar with these grains then google them. They are grains just like wheat but are easier on your digestive system and excellent for people with allergies to wheat. I recommend Ezekiel bread. It is a fantastic bread that is made of beans, legumes, ancient grains, wheat kernels and is very easy on the digestive system. I cannot digest wheat properly and have a high intolerance to the grain, but this bread has been recommended by several of my nutritionists and my dietitian.
. Nuts and Seeds
. Butter
. Essential Fatty Acids

WHAT NOT TO EAT
. Anything that is white.....white bread, white rice, white sugar.....you get the point.
. Red Meat and Pork.
. Dairy Products - This is because of the mucus it creates in your system when you try to digest it. The point of a cleanse is to rid your body of this mucus that lies dormant in your system. If you eat dairy, it defeats the purpose.
. Anything processed. That's right, NO PROCESSED FOODS.

When looking at this diet plan I know what you're thinking.....WTF am I going to eat? I will post recipes and meal suggestions to show you how much of a selection you really do have.

One thing I will warn you about is how you will feel. You might feel fine at the beginning and even have a ton of energy and then fall prey to cold or flu like symptoms. In some cases you may break out with acne on the face and body, this is normal. It is your body ridding itself of toxins.

HINTS
. You should be exfoliating every night in the shower. Your skin is your largest organ and toxins get eliminated through your skin. The more dead skin cells you scrub off the more toxins will be eliminated.
. Cayenne pepper and lemon in your water, seriously it really is amazing.
. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise. Did I mention exercise? For real though, get your but moving. The more you sweat the more toxins get released the better you will feel. It really is just that simple. Don't make it complicated.
. This one's for the ladies. I'm talking about the big C and it ain't cake honey. It's cellulite. Cellulite is a build up of toxins in the pockets of fat causing the dimple effect. You can decrease the appearance of cellulite from detoxing. Individuals with a medical background might disagree, but I have experienced this effect more then 15 times. I don't think that's beginners luck. Check this link out for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cellulite

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns or comments and I will be happy to answer them. GookieGoodHealth@gmail.com

HAPPY CLEANSING AND GOODLUCK!

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://gookiegoodhealth.blogspot.com/2009/05/spring-cleaning-time-what-to-dos-and.html' title='Spring Cleaning Time! This is my very first posting and I'm so excited I almost peed my pants! Anyway, lets get started.

I have this recipe that I experimented with while I was in university. I had very little time for cooking let alone for nutritious cooking. I experimented with some fast cooking breakfast cookies and after a few runs, here's the final recipe. I don't have a picture this time around, but I will re-post it with a pic. Happy Cookie Cooking :)

Prep Time - 3 minutes
Cook Time -10 minutes
Satisfaction - Priceless

1. Pre heat your oven or your toaster oven to 350 before you start the prep.
2. You can use parchment paper which will save you cleanup time and fat and calories from greasing your pan. But if you don't like that route then grease your pan with either olive oil, light butter, pam spray, or really any type of fat that you have, but the healthier the better. I usually prefer the olive oil because of the omega 3 fats, but the spray pam is lighter in calories and fat.
3. Take a package of instant oatmeal and empty into a small bowl. I usually like plain because it has no sugar and its the healthiest.
4. Add approx 1/3 cup of water so that it has the consistency dough.
5. Here's the best part.....add whatever type of fruit you want. And add lots. The more fruit the better for you and it acts as natural sugar and fibre. I usually like to use frozen berries, and fresh peaches are pretty amazing when they're in season.
6. Add a bunch of cinnamon to the dough and sprinkle some on top. It adds as a nice effect.
7. Bake for approx 10 min or until they have the consistency of a soft cookie
8. Let them cool down for 5 minutes.
9. Eat and enjoy :)

BEN-O-METER
rates this recipe as:
4 outta 5 thumbs up

Some Helpful Hints:
1. Oatmeal and fruit are high in fibre and it helps to fill you up. Fibre expands in your stomach to make you feel fuller longer and well lets be honest, the more fibre you have in your body, the happier your colon and your toilet will be. The happier they are the better your body will feel and look. Your energy will increase, your skin will clear up, and you'll probably lose a few pounds.
2. If your not home that often and can't keep fruit in the fridge from going bad, or don't have all the time in the world for grocery shopping, buy frozen. Frozen fruit has all the same nutrients contained in fresh fruit and it lasts a ton longer. Plus, frozen berries are WAY WAY WAY cheaper than fresh. Berries have extremely high anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties.

1
